Pre-Production Highlights from Pike and Trident!

Day 24 - 2/16/14

We hit 260 Likes on the FB page. Wrote the first draft of an email that will go out to our Ambassadors this week. The ambassadors for our Indigogo campaign are the people that have supported us from day 1 of this project and are willing to help us by sharing info about the campaign through their own networks. They are extremely important to a campaign.

Day 25 - 2/17/14

Patty Jean and I continued working on the letter that will go out to prospective Ambassadors for the Indigogo campaign. We sent a draft off to our crowdfunding consultant who is helping us put this all together.

We also spent some time having Patty play dress up. We got some excellent shots of her in a piraty steampunky type of look.

We also played around with emulating one of our favorite photos to share with our friends.

Plus the FB page hit 273! An awesome day.!!

Day 26 - 2/18/14

Had to teach two classes today and then had Fight Class in the Evening. At Fight Class - Patty Jean and I took a time out to create a recruiting video for the Pike and Trident Indiegogo campaign STREET TEAM (ambassadors). That was a hoot!! See it here:

http://youtu.be/sUoTHu0y5dw

Day 27 - 2/19/14

We passed 300 Likes on the Pike and Trident Facebook page overnight! Awesome!! Today I did some work on the Internet to keep spreading the news of our show.

I also called SAG-AFTRA to ask them if it was alright to Taft Hartley myself eventhough I was producing the project - they asked if there was another producer on the project? I said yes. They said it should be no problem then! HUZZAH!

Tomorrow we are off to the county registrar to register our business - Makers of Mischief Productions!

Day 28 - 2/20/14

Patty Jean and I went to the Los Angeles County Registrar's Office and Registered our Fictitiuo Business Name so we can now legally do business as Makers of Mischief Productions. HUZZAH!

The process is quite simple. Here is the website to go to for the forms to register a business in California:

http://rrcc.lacounty.gov/Clerk/Business_Name.cfm then click on
Click here for 2014 Information and Forms

Next week we head to the bank to open our business account! Step by step is it happening.

We have 338 Likes on the Facebook page today AND we are starting to get our Street Team Geared up to spread the word of the campaign that is launching on March 1!

Day 29 - 2/21/14

Signed up with Indiegogo and began filling in the information for the Campaign! There's really a lot to do in this last week. I am trying to STAY CALM AND CARRY ON!

Day 30 - 2/22/14

Spent most of the day with Patty Jean working on the Indiegogo campaign and scripting the Campaign Video. An interesting challenge. We watched other campaign videos and each one is completely different. We are going to be asking for a lot of money so we need to be clear and transparent, yet enthusiastic.  We will have everything ready by Friday for a Friday midnight launch!!

We have 379 Likes on Facebook, and 100 Followers on Twitter and the invites have all gone out for the Pike and Trident Launch Party on March 1st.

BATTLE ON and ENJOY THE MAYHEM!

Pike and Trident Pre-Production Log Continues...

Day 17 - 2/9/14

Spent most of the day on the Internet spreading the word of Pike and Trident. The Pike and Trident Facebook page has 170 Likes and The Twitter has 46 followers! Day by day our audience is growing!!

Day 18  - 2/10/14

Real life barged right in and took over the day. Patty Jean Robinson, Jan Bryant and I  did take an awesome and challenging hike through the mountains. A great way to stay in shape!

Day 19 - 2/11/14

The Pike and Trident Facebook page has over 180 likes already! Awesome!

Day 20 - 2/12/14

House chores wait for no web series project and still must be done! So much for today.

Day 21 - 2/13/14

Started teaching Theatrical Combat to High School Students at the Archer School for Girls. I have been doing this set of workshops with Archer for around 10 years now. It's always a blast.

Skipped Fight Class, but did some online work for the web series.

Day 22 - 2/14/14

Happy Valentine's Day! Today Patty and I made some excellent headway on the Pike and Trident project. We started the morning by doing some online work.

The Pike and Trident Facebook page is up to 227 likes!! We have found that we get the biggest response to when we introduce our cast members on the page.

@pikeandtrident has 67 followers and gaining more all the time.

I am also sharing information about Pike and Trident on appropriate groups on Linked In.

Then we did a prelim costume experiment with me for the character Pike. And some of it came out okay. I definitely need to accessorize more to accomplish even close to a true steam punk feel.

Patty Jean works on her costume next time!!

Then we were off on a location scout to Leo Carrillo Beach. This is an awesome location used in a ton of film and it is gorgeous. I haven't looked into permits for this location, but I hope we have a chance to use it in the Web series.

All in all, an excellent day!

Day 23 - 2/15/14

Spent the day yesterday at the Queen Mary and the ScotsFestival! A great day to step away from the computer and watch some really strong people in kilts hurling things around. It was impressive!

It was also Patty Jean Robinson's first trip to the Queen Mary! We were accompanied by two great Pike and Trident supporters - Trina Mock and Lauren Hattaway! A super time was had by all.

Unfortunately I experienced the first Pike and Trident MARKETING FAIL! - I was supposed to have business cards to pass out at the festival, but didn't get them done. They will be done today so that we don't miss any more opportunities to get the word out about the series.

Until next time - BATTLE ON!!

Pike and Trident Pre-Production Log

Day 10 - 2/2/14

I have no idea where this day went...something about a Super Bowl and a Puppy and Clydesdale commercial...I don't know.

Day 11 - 2/3/14

A successful day of slogging through the Pike and Trident scripts. Lots of fine tuning of words and saying, "But I wanted to say that line!!" But much work was finished.

Patty and I took a break to run out and teach young minds about digital media. Always an adventure!

Then back at it in the evening working up Perk structures for our Indiegogo Campaign. The campaign set to begin March 1st!! SO MUCH TO DO! But it seems we accomplish everything on this project with tons of laughter and serious silliness to the point where I actually think it is improving our health! HA!

More soon!

Day 12- 2/4/14

The Pike and Trident Facebook Page is live!!! Please stop by and like our page!!

https://www.facebook.com/pikeandtrident

Also, we are going to be needing some armor for this production. I know the perfect supplier, my friend Brian Bero! Check out some of his armor inventory. It's awesome!!

http://brianbero.com/gladiators.html

Day 13 - 2/5/14

Worked on getting likes for the Pike and Trident facebook page! 65 likes in a day, not bad. Have to keep it going. We did some research on other campaigns and saw a British web series that had 6000 fans before they started their Indiegogo. We have 3 weeks before we start our campaign so there a lot of work to do. But it's all fun work! And it's always great meeting new people on the internet.

I joined a group interested in the Steampunk culture today. They are awesome and their members are really active in posting their projects and pictures of their adventures on the page. A great resource for us!

Day 14 - 2/6/14

Lost this day somewhere. There was a rare thing called rain happening...

Day 15 - 2/7/14

The Pike and Trident script is registered with the Writer's Guild of America.  The reason for doing this is to prove that you created a certain document at a certain time on a certain day, in case another series shows up that is a lot like your. The fee is $20 for a non- guild member. Here's the website, check it out there is a ton of info on here.

http://www.wga.org/

This registration won't hold up in court, however. But it is a form of proof of creation. We will actually copyright the shooting script with the Library of Congress. Here is that website:

http://www.copyright.gov/

Patty and I are also hustling to get people to check out our Facebook Page and Twitter. We need to build an audience quickly so we have someone to help us when the Indiegogo launches.

We created the Pike and Trident YOUTUBE Channel today.

Day 16 - 2/8/14

Spent the morning on the Internet trying to get more likes for the Facebook Page. We are slowly but surely building an audience for Pike and Trident.

The FIGHT CLASS gang came over to the house in the afternoon and we had a garage cleaning party. My garage is where more of the prop and set storage for Pike and Trident will be happening so we had to make some room. We also identified props that we already have and set them aside for May.

We were able to finish up our casting and try a few costume pieces during the day. I am continuously amazed and grateful that this creative process seems to be weaving itself in and around all the normal everyday stuff I have to do. I am fortunate to live in an environment that allows this to  happen.

Next week: Kim and Patty do location scouting, more fight training, prepping for photo shoot, more fight training, Start creating videos for the Indiegogo campaign, continue to spread the word on the Internet about our fantastic project and last but not least - MORE FIGHT TRAINING!!

Here are some of the amazing people I get to work with on this project!

Meet Jan Bryant! She is the Stunt Coordinator, Fight Choreographer and Co-Director of Pike and Trident! Jan was a sword master and fight choreographer on such films as Master and Commander, Hook and Army of Darkness! Learn more about Jan at http://theatricalcombat.com/jan-bryant/!

Please meet Anne Westcott! A fabulous actress and a phenomenal Swords Woman! She will be playing the role of Pike and Trident's Boss, Dr. Narsil, head Curator of the Museum of Now and Then. Anne is currently participating in a 50 Hour Play competition! Talk about needing stamina!!

Until we chat again - BATTLE ON!!

Day 6 - 1/29/14

More research but mostly Real Life intervenes.

Day 7 - 1/30/14

Okay, Real Life ruled the day completely -

Until Fight Class when I got to help Patty Jean Robinson pass her Advanced Cutlass Fight with flying colors!! Video to come soon.

Dan Speaker also worked with some of us to choreograph a short Bar Room Brawl! I think prepping for the action of Pike and Trident is my favorite part of the process!! RAWR!

Day 8 - 1/31/14

Patty and I sharpened our on set skills spending the day as PA's for The Media Barons Creative Services team, lead by Sean Heckman and Jason Medbury. These guys can do anything and it's always a pleasure getting to work for them.

Check out their website:

http://mbcreativeservices.com/

The location was a huge ranch north of Santa Clarita, California, right next to Western Landscapes Nursery. It doesn't have a name like most movie ranches, but they had a standing set that worked perfectly for this project.

With crew and cast there were about 25 people on set. Usually when you are on location there are no restroom facilities and you have to bring them in. To cover that, the Media Barons brought in a really nice RV from Cruise America RV. This also provided space for the admin PA to get the paperwork taken care of for the day and some place for the actors to go to get warm.

Check out CruiseAmerica.com:

http://www.cruiseamerica.com/rent/our_vehicles/intermediate_rv.aspx

6935 Foothill Blvd, Tujunga, CA

I also learned about a fantastic Catering Company. It's called:

24Hr Production Catering

They handled both Craft Services and Lunch for the cast and crew. The food was absolutely delicious! I have no idea what their rates are but they were perfect for this size production.

All in all it was an awesome day of work!!

Day 9 - 2/1/14

That incredible Patty Jean Robinson and I got together to plow through some of the episode scripts and we had a phone meeting with our guest screenwriter, Brian Luce!! Of course, we spent most of the meeting cracking each other up! HUZZAH!

Some things we are starting to think about are creating our Indiegogo campaign video and checking out some of the locations we want to use for different episodes. I will be keeping you posted on all of our adventures!

Battle On!
